Description

What is a drum pulley wheel in a washing machine?

A drum pulley wheel is attached to the drum shaft. It transfers power from the motor to the drum so it can rotate during the wash and spin cycles. The pulley wheel is made of metal or plastic and can withstand frequent use.

How do I know if my drum pulley wheel is bad?

Squeaking, screeching, or grinding sounds indicate a worn-out or damaged pulley wheel. A drum that does not spin properly or a belt that appears loose or slips off the pulley wheel is another indication.

Visible signs of wear or damage, such as cracks, chips, or a misshapen appearance on the pulley wheel suggests immediate replacement.

Deformed plastic drum pulley successfully replaced

This plastic pulley is for AEG washing machines. It completely fixed my problem and here's why: The AEG original pulley will deform over time, because it's made from plastic (instead of metal as in most washing machines). This means that many people with AEGs have a drum pulley that is deformed at the shaft and makes noise because of that, is loose and has play, yet the bolt is perfectly tight and in place. It's a very puzzling problem to have, and to diagnose (because so uncommon since most pulleys are metal), but if you unscrew the plastic drum pulley you will see that it is often deformed where it meets the shaft. If that's the case for you, get this piece. The machine works great now, that was the only issue with it. Of course you might need to replace this drum pulley again in a few years, as it is also plastic, and will likely deform as well over time. In theory you could use a metal pulley instead for durability ... -- however I would simply recommend using that same part since it is inexpensive (compared to a washing machine replacement anyway!) and easy to change. Maybe also the fact that it is plastic actually avoids other problems since it's softer on the whole system? I don't know -- just use the exact replica of the original part and avoid headaches. This worked. This is likely a common problem on AEGs if they have a plastic pulley as well so spread the word to avoid more washing machines in landfills!
