How to Clean The Filter On A Hotpoint Washing Machine
In this video we'll show you how to access and clean the filter on a Hotpoint washing machine, however the process is usually the same on most brands.
How often should I clean the filter
Our advie would be to get in to the habit of cleaning and emptying the filter on your washing machine on a regular basis, say every month if your washing machine is in use every day. Even the most consciencious amongst us will miss a coin or other object in the pocket! The filter is designed to stop foreign objects passing through and damaging the pump, however if the filter becomes blocked then the water in your washing machine will not be able to empty which can cause other damage.
Step 1 - Remove the kick plate
The kick plate is held in place with 3 plastic lugs. Use a flat bladed screwdriver to prise the kick plate away from the washing machine.
Step 2 - Place a towel on the floor
It's a good idea to place an old towel on the floor in front of the washing machine to catch any water that is in the sump area.
Step 2 - Unscrew the filter
Unscrew the filter counter clockwise. If the filter is difficult to unscrew you may need to use a pair of grips to help. If there is any foreign objects stuck in the filter then this can make it difficult to turn and undo.
Step 3 - Clean the filter and housing
With the filter removed give it a good clean and also clean the inside of the filter housing.
Step 4 - Replace the filter
Finally you need to replace the filter. Make sure that the seal is clean and in good condition, and make sure that the filter is tight enough to create a water tight seal, without over tightening.
